Day 1

We depart for Exeter, making comfort stops en route and arriving at The Devon Hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2

Today we’ll head into Exeter, where you’ll have free time to enjoy this city rich in history. Choose from visiting the imposing Roman wall, the beautiful quayside with plenty of opportunities to shop or exploring the award-winning Royal Albert Memorial Museum. This afternoon, we visit the magnificent Exeter Cathedral, where we embark on a 90-minute Lady Chapel and Bishop’s Palace Garden Tour. On this tour, you’ll discover the story of the cathedral and those who have lived and worshipped here for centuries, and we’ll also have the opportunity to visit the private gardens of the Bishop of Exeter.

Day 3

This morning, enjoy a scenic drive through Dartmoor National Park. Watch out for wild Dartmoor ponies as we traverse past heather-clad moors, river valleys, granite tors and Neolithic monuments! We then arrive at the 11th-century Buckfast Abbey, which houses a working community of Benedictine monks. Visit the soaring Abbey Church, stroll in the gorgeous Sensory and Lavender Gardens, and chart the daily lives of the monks at the Exhibition Centre. Afterwards, enjoy some free time to have lunch at the abbey restaurants.

Day 4

Enjoy a wonderful and tranquil 90-minute horse-drawn barge cruise on the Tiverton Cana this morning! As we travel, we’ll learn about the artistically decorated boat and the heavy horses that pull it. Afterwards, we have some free time to explore Tiverton. This ancient market town is filled with history and heritage, set beside the Grand Western Canal. Alternatively, we have the option of visiting the Tiverton Museum of Mid-Devon Life.

We depart the hotel after breakfast, making our way home with comfort stops en route.
